Haliclona oculata is a soft, smooth organism resembling the appearance of “dead man’s fingers.” Its body can have colors such as orange, yellowish-brown, or red. The body produces a multitude of finger-like projections extending from the stalk, each of which is marked with numerous sizable rounded openings called “oscula.” The organism’s skeletal structure is composed of spongin and includes embedded siliceous spicules with two rays, known as “oxea. Its canal system is of the leuconoid type.
