The crab has a brown to brownish-gray carapace (hard outer shell) with a violet-colored outer surface of the palm (claw) near the proximal part (base). The carapace is flat and squarish with one small tooth. The legs are flat with pointed tips. The pincers may be colorful. The sides of the body have a net-like structure that helps recirculate and oxygenate water in the gill chambers.
