Shell very large, broadly fusiform, swollen, thick and heavy. Apex pointed. Spire conical, strongly elevated; 5-6 whorls; suture distinct. Angulated shoulder with prominent axial nodules, most prominent on the last 2 whorls. Body whorl swollen. Aperture elongate-ovate, finely lirate inside; outer lip thick; columella with 2-3 oblique folds; anterior siphonal canal stout, deep and broadly open. Colour: outer surface off-white to light fawn, with dark or deep brown axial lines. Aperture light purple with reddish denticles and lirae. Inner lip, columella and siphonal canal purplish-brown. Size: maximum shell length 170 mm, commonly about 115 mm; average shell length, width, aperture length, width and siphonal canal length measure 86, 44, 34, 18 and 10 mm, respectively
