The plants have a color ranging from pale pink to a purplish-red shade and possess a resilient gelatinous texture. They exhibit multiple levels of dichotomous branching, with their cylindrical branches remaining continuous and gently narrowing toward the top while contracting at the base. The branch tips are either blunt or slightly pointed. The cortex comprises the epidermal layer, the hypodermal layer, and a layer of corticating filaments. In mature plants, there are occasional constrictions at irregular intervals along the branches.
