The thallus is leafy and consists of a single layer, with a membranous texture. It lacks a stipe, and its blades are either circular or occasionally linear in shape, with spiny margins. It thrives on rocks, clinging with a disk-shaped holdfast. When viewed from the surface, the cells appear either rectangular or round, and each cell contains 1-2 stellate chloroplasts with a prominent central pyrenoid. These plants have a reddish-pink coloration.
