The central stem consists of one central siphon, several pericentral siphons, and an outer layer of cells that form a bark-like covering. In this outer layer, elongated cells and shorter cells are arranged in alternating rings. The plants have a bushy growth habit, and they are deep crimson red in color, with lengths ranging from 3 to 50 centimeters measured from the base. The smaller branch tips are typically divided into two or more segments, featuring a single central siphon and having sharp points.
