The thallus originates from a disk-shaped holdfast and can grow either individually or in clusters. It has a tubular or cylindrical shape, sometimes appearing somewhat compressed. Its branching pattern is irregular and not very frequent, and the interior is hollow, filled with a watery mucilage. Both the main axis and the branches tend to taper at both ends, and they may have irregular swellings or even twists. The base of the thallus remains persistent, and the upright fronds begin growing from within. These plants are epiphytic, and their color ranges from dark red to a pale yellowish hue, which tends to become paler towards the tips.
