Description:
As they age, their head shape changes, but their snout stays smaller and shorter. The nose of a young animal dips downhill toward the front, but the nose of an older animal is straight and has a squarish appearance. The dorsal fin of this whale is located more forward on the back and is higher than that of the Pygmy Sperm Whale, making up almost 5% of the entire body length. This features a wide base and a trailing edge that is concave. The lower jaw may have seven or thirteen pairs of teeth. This whale, in contrast to the Pygmy Sperm Whale, may also have up to three pairs of immature teeth in its upper jaw. Compared to Pygmy Sperm Whales, this species’ teeth are thinner and shorter.
