Description:
This species is characterized by a body depth of 2.9–3.4 times in standard length, with the snout length about 1.7–2.2 times in head length. The snout length (measured without lip) is 0.6–0.8 times in cheek height. Lateral teeth in the jaws are conical. The inner surface of the pectoral fin base and cheeks is scaleless. The body is grey, lighter ventrally, often with scattered irregular dark blotches. The snout has wavy dark streaks, and the upper jaw, especially near the corner of the mouth, is sometimes edged behind with red.
