The fish has a fusiform, elongate, and moderately compressed body with two postmaxillary processes. It features small conical teeth in the jaws, vomer, and palatines. Both dorsal and anal fins are scaly, with approximately half of the greatest spinous height of the dorsal fin covered with scales. The upper body exhibits light blue to brownish coloration, while the lower body is white to pinkish. There is a bright yellow band below the lateral line, extending from behind the eye to the base of the caudal fin. This band is wider anteriorly (2–3 scales) and tapers to 1 scale in width on the caudal peduncle. Additionally, a less conspicuous yellow stripe runs along the dorsal midline, and the axil of the pectoral fins is black. The tips of the caudal fin lobes are black.
