Description:
The body depth is 2.8–3.2 times the standard length (SL), and the preopercle is rounded or subangular. The upper edge of the operculum is almost straight, and the midlateral part of the lower jaw has 2–3 rows of teeth. The lower jaw barely projects in front of the upper jaw. There are 17–19 pectoral fin rays, and the caudal fin is rounded. The fish has 48–52 lateral line scales, and lateral body scales are rough with auxiliary scales. The coloration includes a pale head and body with large, closely spaced, hexagonal to roundish, dark brown spots, forming a reticulum dorsally, while ventrally the spots are more separated. There are two dark brown bands on the chest joining below the pectoral fin bases.
